Besides, I don't get why you complain about info dumps. I'm perfectly okay with them, hell, I WANT some more of them. I like knowing this kind of stuff. Sure, thats just personal opinion, but I don't think its time to complain about it.
You have my agreement on this one.
It's a matter of personal opinion, sure. I want to know stuff as much as the next guy. And I rather like some 'tell' in stories instead of just 'show', since a decent narrator can do both.
But Homestuck is fantasy(science fiction?), and Fantasy is 50% world building to me.
I'm not one of the snobs who claim that every story must constitute a benefit, contain a meaning, for the real world either. Exploring a artifical, fictive world is most of the fun to me.
Escapism? Probably.
And an excessive explaining/monologue feels like cheating at the world-building to me.
It's a mean to make the the fictive world easier to understand, while robbing the reader of the experience, the speculation, the analysis. Even if justified in-story.
It's just too easy.
I hope, I can make myself clear.
To be fair, Jades adventures weren't plot impotant or notable at all.
That's a consequence of the changed focus, not the cause (at least on writer-level). Jade had sub-par development and story
because of what the Trolls were doing was more interesting than Jade moping in some ruins. There is only so much space in a story after all, even in a story like this.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Trolls. I wouldn't read Homestuck if I didn't. And one of the aspects I love about Homestuck is the ever-expanding scope, the fact that it is an experiment under uncontrolled circumstances, a wild and headstrong beast, barely bridled by its fanatic creator.
Yet the story is drawing to a big finale. That's part of its nature, since the very first page. And I want see characters, well-crafted characters, grow and develop, preferrably in a way I didn't expect (this I got) and there
are only so much pages left.
I like the Alpha Kids. Their introduction was well prepared, and their characters are interesting in a multitude of ways.
I like the whole UuuU business, because I have no idea where it is leading.
I will enjoy whatever Tavriska does in the bubbles, whatever happens(I would probably enjoy it the most if Tavros finally developed some balls, but that may not be the most logical path).
I might even like the Betacestors, after a few hundred pages, like I learned to stop worry and love the
Zombie Trolls.
I almost certainly will never take LE seriously, but the Condesce and Jack and maybe Gamzee are pretty awesome villains.
But right now it's just so much chaos and emotions and shipping(bluh) and i wrote just so much stuff in poor English and I don't know how this all should come to a satisfying conclusion without so MUCH MORE info-dumping, just for temporal reasons.
The only thing I know is that I want more Jack.
3xNinja combo?!
