Regarding Sassacre's death, it can't have been firearms after meteor impact since we know artifacts stayed with their original owners (Skaia only changed the portal destinations, and you can tell that Jane and John, if absolutely nothing else, still had their original ones), so those would've landed with Jake. Sassacre would've been confronted with a pair of infants with a tome and a stuffed bunny.

EDIT: It is conceivable she shot him LATER, though, yes.

I'm pretty sure it was Jake/Grandpa who shot him, with pistols. Then he and Jane/Nanna got taken in by Betty Crocker, and he ran away off to adventure with Halley. I think.
