Oh wow, I didn't notice how well Hussy weaved the gameplay of chess into narrative, very well done!

He didn't really. Did you notice that the kings seem to be leading the battles while the queens manage the affairs of their respective planets? In chess it would usually be the reverse, right?

On a related note though I, personally, also like the use of the chess and assorted games theme, inaccurately implemented though it may be. It (among other things) gives the comic a feel of Alice In Wonderland turned up to eleven. You've got the chessmen running around everywhere, and you've also got the playing card people (who, in this case, also used to be chessmen); but in this case, there's also an additional pool/billiards themed faction (The Felt gang), as well as the SBURB game itself, which is like a cross between The Sims, Earthbound, and Mamba.

Does anybody else find it odd that Dave doesn't just go back in time himself to prevent Jade and John from prototyping Bec. It seems like scratching their whole session and sending one of their own on a suicide mission in the Furthest Ring is obvious overkill; and given that Rose is the only human protagonist who has been brainwashed by Doc Scratch that leaves three other protagonists who should have realized this.

He would create a paradox and doom the timeline.

But so would their current plan; the scratch is simply a more Rube-Goldbergian way of achieveing the same end.
(There are obviously, much more pressing reasons why it is a bad idea, but this is the primary reason out of those that the kids should actually be aware of)

There is a bit of an element of fate to their existence. The Alpha timelines involves the cancer running its course until it expels itself from the universe. All other timelines are doomed to die off. It's either have Bec be prototyped and being able to chat with the trolls or stopping it, preventing troll communication and not being able to save the session with knowledge about the Scratch.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

All other timelines are doomed to die off.

I always figured that was putting the cart before the horse. I think timelines don't die off because they're doomed - they're doomed because they die off. The alpha timeline doesn't survive because it's the alpha; it's the alpha because it survived (And is the only one that makes temporal sense).

Actually the scratch completely resets the universe, time travel creates offshoot timelines. Thus the scratch would also destroy Jack if he stays in the universe.

But resetting to before Bec was prototyped would prevent jack from being invincible, which is ultimately the point. There will always be a Jack Noir becuase he's a stock character in the game; That's why there are at least three of him; but he won't always be immortal and omnipotent.
