Irony's a funny thing. I can almost never get it to sound right in context.

Also, would you guys help me flesh out some details about a MSPFA I'm working on?
I've never done one, but I'm all ears, and flesh and organs and such. I think my over-analytical nature can help you get things organized. That's if you're asking for specifics; I'm not too good at coming up with general advice (like what Acanthus just posted).

Oh what is this nonsense you just started one.

Unless "MSPAFA" in this context is different than "Almost MSPA-style ISG"

Actually, mine's actually more in-the-future-Homestuck kind of thing.

I'm basically thinking Adultstuck meets Red storm Rising.

Another couple of tips:

1. PLAN THE FUCK AHEAD.

This has killed tons of MSPAFAs (including my half-hearted attempt at one), and I'd hate to see your efforts go down the drain, broman.

2. Don't be afraid to reject stupid requests.

Sometimes, your readers will get a hold of a stupid idea that they won't let go of. At times, you should indulge the silly side of your adventure, but don't be afraid to exercise your power as GM or whatever you'd call a MSPAFA author if things are getting out of hand.

I don't know what Red Storm Rising is so if there's anything I can help on, it's certainly not much plot. I assume you already know how to do one of these/have done one before? Or is it your first one? My first was like a blank slate when I made it, so I was able to just jump right in. I didn't/don't know how to continue it with what commands were/are available, but it was fun. I may continue it if I ever come up with anything.

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I especially do that with my writing, reading it and getting a good idea of how it comes across as. If I think of anything else to add to it while writing, I do so, and keep rereading every several edits or so until it looks like no more needs to be done to make it better.

Red storm rising is a political intruige what-if novel, and Adultstuck is a text adventure IN THA FOOTORE.

I've done a few suggestion adventures before, none with images though. This is the first one i'm really planning out.

Should I get some more drawing experience, or just use the fuck out some writing ability?

Actually, I'm a lot better at writing than I am at drawing.

Spoiler:  To wit (click to show/hide)

I'm not that shabby at drawing, I just get reeeeeally impatient when I draw.

Pff I'm the opposite-- I think, "oh that would look nice there" and spent lots of time making it, because my mindset is always, "you put ffort into that, and you are damn well going to make use of it somehow", and if I do scrap it, half the time I regret it and put more effort into making it again.
And that's just objects, like chairs or plants. I guess it's like what I said about writing in my last post, adding things until it looks right, and adjusting the things I'm adding until they look right.

This perfectionism of mine is both a strength and a weakness, but it's more good as a strength than bad as a weakness.

That's kind of how I look at my writing. I just go over it and add more details. Then comes in the patience thing, and I sometimes do stupid things like repeat words or something like that.

This is made worse by the fact that noone really cares about text adventures. The adventure I pulled that from has gotten six replies, three from me. Then there is another adveture that gets like ten replies from a picture and a sentence.

I look at adventures like Adultstuck and Vriska: Be the pokemon master and they have few replies, so maybe I'm just exasperating the problem.

Yeah, it's true. One reason is text based adventures are notorious for, FOR SOME REASON, usually being lower in quality than a regular ISG. Maybe it's perceived, but a lot of people are put off by text adventures for this reason and others.

You could combat this by just drawing some lines and shapes.

Yeah, you don't have to be precision-perfect. If you go about it right, that could become a part of its appeal. Making perfect panels to the point of identicalness could get boring to the reader; for example, if you rely too much on just moving the sprite around or not changing the scenery every so often.
Hand-drawn each time makes it so it's a fresh panel even if it's in the same location as the last one, though some people experience what I like to call progressive illustrative deterioration.
Drawing each panel from scratch and making/using your own templates/sprites from scratch each have their difficulties, you just have to find which ones you can cope with the easiest.
You could probably do really well with sprites if you can find a way to hold off that impatience during the initial sprite-making process. I myself have folders with bases, rooms, and templates for my ISGs.

That would work, except I'm drawing with a mouse. So there are no straight lines for me.

Anyway, plot. I just have a few characters that I don't know what to do with. Karkat, Terezi, and Kanaya are all just kind of blank.

I guess I should post the rest of my notes here?

Maybe it's own thread, somewhere?  Or, link it on Pastebin maybe?  This thread is huge enough as it is.
