For me, the most reassuring thing about this journal nonsense is that it's abundantly clear the past is not prologue, and Hussie isn't going to use Mindfang's rambling as a fancy way of telling the story at hand.  It's pretty off the rails.

Yeah, it's pretty much a recurring theme that history DOESN'T repeat itself. Ancestequius defied the highbloods to do something for a mysterious female troll (it is Nepeta) which is exactly what Equius dismally failed to do. It's more like it's foreshadowing what the troll session could have been without Karkat's angry leadership, like the prophetic journal was dropped to the wrong future, either by error of Skaian time loop machinations or to provide the trolls a glimpse of what their lives could have been like had they not tried to get along and be friends.
