 I like lovable douches, but they need to be over the top without being cruel. Doc Scratch is not cruel, but he's very technical and not really funny in an absurd way. Vriska is over-the-top in how crazy she is, but she cruel enough for that to not matter.

 Dave is a loveable douche because he's over-the-top and isn't cruel.

Darkness. For hours now, nothing but darkness. Sollux had no idea where he was or what was going on around him, but he knew two things. One was that wherever he was, one of those glubbing cloning vats was nearby. Second was that, by some miracle, Gamzee was nowhere near him. If he strained his ears, the blind prophet could hear faint honking. But the sound terrified him, and he tried not to focus on it. Karkat had left to do... something. Sollux hadn't paid attention to most of his rambling, but he knew it would be some time before he returned. That was why the breathing in the room disturbed him so much.

It had been there a few minutes now; at first he'd just thought it was whatever glubbing monster was in the tube, but it was definitely getting closer.

"kk is that y0u?"

"Meow!"

"wait, nepeta?? I th0ught y0u were 0ff glubbing around with the creepy h0rse guy."

"Who's Nepeta?"

"what"

Sollux fumbled around for his weapon when he heard the foreign voice. This was promptly followed by smacking his own head for forgetting. "y0u d0n't HAVE a strife specibus, y0u idi0t. stupid br0ken  psychic d00m p0wers."

As the br0ken psychic flailed about, he felt his hand smack against something's face. "Ow!" was the only response. Save for the angry bite that gashed his hand, obviously. Sollux retracted his bleeding hand, s0uting at whatever had bit him.

"0kay what the fuck. just what am i talking t0 right now?"

The whatever it was smacked its lips. "Hey, you taste just like peanut butter! Meow!"

"0kay, that's really fucking weird and i'll get back t0 that, but y0u didn't answer my questi0n."

"Oh, right. I'm Jaspers the cat!"

"what's a cat?"

"You've never heard of a cat?! Maybe I just shouldn't waste my purrecious time with you. I'll just go." The little creature slowly hovered away, leaving the pr0phet where he was found.

"fine, g0! see if i care!"

I can't help but think Doc Scratch being partly Lil' Cal, while it has its maniacal charms, really really sounds like something Hussie didn't plan in advance at all, and just realized he had a couple loose strings he could tie together in a "funny" way.  Calling back to his introduction in saying really creepy things to Terezi and Vriska is nice though; Rose is always great for reactions.

Re: Fanfiction "Contest"... Is it a contest?  I don't know what we're doing anymore.  I have a great idea and a prompt, but I'm not like you freaks who can crank out (short) literature in a matter of minutes.  I mean, my one shining attempt at fanficin' took me like an hour, and that was the lazy man's way.

And speaking of the comic (that old thing? yeah really), I just now noticed that Rose's blue-hued acolyte is holding one of those magic cue balls.  I wonder where she got it from, since all the previously seen ones got blowed up one way or another.

Dad/Serenity - Underground

I haven't started mine yet.  I think I might do Dad and Serenity as underground railroad conductors, or maybe resistance fighters on Derse.  Just having them beneath the surface of a planet seems a little lame.
