Andrew talked about it in his old Formspring a couple of times, but seldom confirmed anything. He definitely did hint that the resurrection kiss was necessary, and that the dream self would eventually die if it wasn't administered.

EDIT: Also I found this forum post.

Also you should all remember that Andrew lies and it doesn't really matter how dream self injuries work.

So...
Is it just me that finds it weird that Feferi had a dreamself outside of Derse after her dreamself died -and- her waking self died?

Also, seeing as Jade is the only human to lose a Dreamself so far, aaannd Rose is about to go and murder her dreamself.. Does anyone else notice the SEXISM here?!
