I can certainly see Nepeta having a 'Rogue class' fighting style and heart could also mean health.

Heir of Void=Gravity based superpower?

Mage of Doom= Something related to his psychic powers and eyebeams most likely. We saw him hurling meteors at the Black King.

Both Aradia and Dave have the same niche, heck, Aradia has 'timetables' that look alot like Daves. So theirs are time based, Dave may have already unlocked his highest echeladder rank.

We saw Tavros using his 'master of all alien pokemon' skills and telepathic mind control of beasts when they were fighting the black king, so that supports the life meaning of breath.

Not sure what kind of superpower Karkat and Feferi would end up having.

Nepeta's power is shipping.
As in deportation?

Nepeta is Arizona.

Ah, but Third-Day Dave, who has already seen the future and knows about John's windy thing, complains that he'll never be able to match John's nebulous status.  Sounds to me like he hasn't.

...Waitaminute.  John, the Boy-Skylark, plummeted down into the oil, where he was quickly surrounded by fire, because Vriska put him to sleep.  The incredible strain and challenge of the situation, egged on by Vriska bitching at him, concurrently unlocked the windy thing and the topped out the echeladder.  In other words, in a roundabout way, Vriska challenged and pushed John to his greatest potential.

God fucking dammit, the bitch was right all along.

Also, it's not necessarily unlocked by reaching the highest rung of the echeladder. John only reached the highest one because he used the power.

Maybe it's unlocked by extreme need?

It could just be that Johns maximum power is way higher than Dave can achieve.

As for items, I don't think John actually has his overpowred item based on his theme yet. I know he has that Hephaestus's hammer, but that was stolen and not alchemized. However, it doesn't mean that he doesn't get that item in the future because when Karkat was talking to John the first time, John was on LOHAC with some new clothes and a headset computer. We also saw him with an upgraded alchemitizer, so he could very well have it already.

Maybe it's unlocked by extreme need?

Actually, maybe all the players have to find ULTIMATE POWER on their own terms? Remember the sequence where Dave got the legendary epic weapon right before falling asleep. When he asked Davesprite about it, he speculated that if John had been tugging at it with his Pure Heart and hero spirit and shit, it would have popped out like a champagne cork, but Dave had to break it. Maybe this is indicative of a larger pattern?

John is the naïve protagonist type, who gets his superpowers out of nowhere by REALLY, REALLY NEEDING them. He'll just naturally pull some wind powers out of his ass at a certain point during his quest, and it turns out that the power was Inside Him All Along, etcetera etcetera. Dave and Rose go about it a different way. Dave gets the Time Tables from his future self who grinded for four months and probably had to go through all kinds of ridiculous shit to get them. He essentially cheats by means of time loops, fitting for the Knight of Time. Rose's power as the Seer of Light would thus be knowing everything there is to know about the game, which she gets by studying Ancient Unspeakable Forbidden Lore and forming dark pacts with Horrorterrors.

Even if it really is that simple, I have no idea how Vriska would have gotten her Luck Beam. Maybe she got it from her Denizen after killing it? That would be the standard RPG procedure. Kill nemesis, take loot, gain powers. And she's a Flarper, a powergamer and no stranger to grinding, so something simple would be appropriate.

Dave may have already unlocked his highest echeladder rank.

I'm sure he does. Or rather, I'm sure at least one of his selves does.

He'll just naturally pull some wind powers out of his ass
