Given that the cloning pods even replicate eyeglasses, it wouldn't surprise me if John's love of awful movies is somehow reflected in Jade's personality.  Hence, the cartoon posters and such.  Explains a lot about Grandpa Harley's laundry list of crazy obsessions too.
