I also just realized why Karkat hates John so very much for seemingly no reason. If Universe Blue and Earth were to be the troll's then Karkat is watching some pink monkey live it up on their paradise while he's trapped on a dead rock in quite literally the middle of nowhere.

That may be part of it, and since John and his group are responsible for stranding the trolls on that rock that's probably part of it as well.

But most of it comes from this:
