Actually, Sollux wasn't doing that when he was using his psychic powers and we haven't seen Aradia doing that either as a ghost. There is one scene way back where Aradia was putting her hands on her head when she was still alive.

Its entirely possible that since both Sollux and Aradia are extremely powerful psychics, so they don't need to do that. At least they don't need to do it for telekinesis powers.
