I think the Trolls' Skaia, after twelve kernel hatchings, looked something like this.

why, JN arrived on a chess world that advanced with each kernelsprite, killed the previous black and white kings, and saw the white staff fall down a waterfall.

Third watch and I'm still not entirely sure what's going on. Looks like Andrew might be setting up the Midnight Crew (or rather their mirrors) to be the final bad guys of the story vs. the light and dark sides.

Also:

If you're wondering whether this animation (WV?: Rise up.) was going to be the original 4/13 one, the answer's still no. That'll be the next one.

Ohhhhh man.

They do have teleporters, actually.  It was probably that.  I mean, every time someone walks from one place to another in a book, you don't need to see the exact route they took.

And JN didn't kill the white king, just the black one.  The white King gave his staff to PM, and the HB counterpart punched her.  She then dropped it.

I really don't see what's so confusing about it.  I only had to watch it once.  You could say, it confuses me why it confuses people.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

After HB decks PM? she drops the staff off a cliff, The Sovereign Slayer destroys the Black King's Skaia Scepter and then kills him, while WV?'s uprising watches this act of regicide.
