Given that the religions of the world start up at vastly different times, and branch off of another one a good deal of the time, the trolls corresponding to Earth's religions doesn't seem to work that well.

 I believe Hussie said that there were old creation myths involving the Zodiac that died off a long time ago, so that may have worked out. Just no modern belief system matches up exactly to those forgotten myths.

 I actually daydreamed of an alternate reality of Hussie having two trolls devoted to the bashing heads of the religious nutheads and atheist nutheads. It would turn out the Trolls do have a Quantum God, who is both real and not real, so both Religious Troll and Atheist Troll are correct. Sollux and Karkat have a discussion about a god, so the thought of trolls having no concept of them isn't a reason that could not have happened. Although I'm sure adding them would have been a doozy to not be completely problematic with the fans.

Rediscovered a trove of fanfics for you.  Some are okay, some have their problems, some are outmoded by plot.  This one is a small nugget of gold.  Photobucket makes a godawful writing-viewer though.
