Hey, the alphas did a lot of important stuff like getting really fucked up on cherubian sexdrugs and failing to keep the manipulative domineering fishbitch from dominating and manipulating everybody!

That would be my problem with the Alpha kids, in that their characters are defined by failure.

Jane's failure to express feelings or realize the truth.
Jake's failure to realize the world around him, including but not limited to; Not picking up romantic cues, not realizing that he's homosexual, not being competent at combat, etc.
Dirk's failure to nurture his young A.I., failure to keep the group together, and failure to face his own problems.

Really, Roxy is the only blameless one here. Failure to face her problems as well, I guess, but her character is diverse with pros and cons, not just one or the other. Sure, she's a raging alcoholic and a little slow while she's blatantly half-way to shitface island, but she's the most competent of the bunch and manages to keep the group together.

It's the same problem I had with most of the trolls before they had a corpse party and the survivors/ghosts remaining got a considerable amount of character development.

I suppose that's what needed now. Kill off Jane or Dirk, and give the remaining Not-Roxy characterization beyond UGH BEING A KID IS SO HARD MI DIOS VIVO ES NO FACIL DE UN NIÑO
