What does Trickster Mode Jane's race have to do with anything? I think he's making fun of the people who insisted that the kids had to be white, but I don't think it's coming across that well and I'm not entirely sure.

Honestly, I read it primarily as a joke that a character finally had ANY skin tone at at all (or at least a skin tone possessed by humans), and /then/ as a stab at people who insist all the characters are white (race) instead of white (color), since you obviously can't change from Caucasian to Caucasian.

So what were people complaining about with the joke that prompted the removal? Was it people running around going 'JANE IS WHITE' or something like that?

Probably a bit more... aggressive, than that. And probably more along the lines of "HAH, HUSSIE SAID THE CHARACTERS WERE WHITE YOU SUCK" to the people who actually care.

I maintain my headcanon that all characters are the specific color they are drawn in. Trolls are grey, cherubs are green, and humans are albino. It goes a long way towards explaining the complete isolation these people seemed to live in
