Okay, as gloriously self-conscious as all of that was, and the mad awesomesauce of the Alpha kids doing in two flashes what the Betas haven't and won't manage until at least three years after they started (uniting), there's still one huge question that I'd really really like to have answered by now, especially now.

How the flying fuck did Dirk know to do any of this shit?  I get it, he's more of an author-avatar than the actual author avatar, but he's not really supposed to be.  I'd really like to know how he had any idea to do all this convoluted shit the way it went down.

Or for that matter what possessed Jane to run to that one particular telepad.

He needed to wake up his dreamself (how he knew this is a different question) and with Roxy and Jane now dreamself'd, there was only one man left to do the job.  One man, 413 years in the past.  And the transportalizer wasn't big enough to fit his whole body.

My first guess would be that Dirk somehow got access to Rose's Sburb guide, no doubt due to Weird Plot Shit combined with Weird Time Shit. I can't remember how far along Rose got with that guide, though, so that theory might have holes in it.
