Why would Mage of Mind be psychic seeing stuff in advance. That sounds like Terezi, Seer of mind.

Mage has the ability to foretell things things associated with his aspect and to avoid them (as best we can tell).

Yes, there is a bit of overlap, but the Seer is more about options and possibilities and choices. Where those choices will go. That's not the mage at all.

The mage, near as I can tell, would be about detecting what others are thinking and rendering himself inscrutable to others to attempts to figure out the same for himself.

He's not a manipulator like the Seer is (though he could be a manipulator in his own right) - he doesn't navigate the sea of possibility and see where choices end, he just sees how things are or, occasionally, will be, as far as minds go.

But he knows what's going on in other people's heads.

In a way, he has more choices than the Seer of mind - he can probably take routes she could not, because her power didn't actually give her any real information about what was going through the other persons head, only how they would /act/ in response to her decisions. It knew about their choices, but not their motivations or thoughts or ultimate desires.

On that subject, I am Mage of Heart.

Which kinda fits, I guess. Maybe.

You have visions of love, and no matter how it tries to entangle you, you will always manage to barely escape its grasp.

You might also, unintentionally, be responsible for the greatest love of all.

Sollux is our mage, Terezi is our Seer.

Tell me, does Sollux seem like the /manipulative/ type to you?

I'm not saying it's not possible, mind you, but unlike the Seer of Mind, which is BUILT around manipulation, the Mage of Mind... isn't.

In fact, ALL the seer classes are built around not so much manipulation, as navigation. It's just that navigating minds generally involves a lot of manipulation. It's all about making one thing happen instead of another possible thing.

The Mage is more about seeing things and avoiding them, then about making it happen or not. If you look at sollux, his doom happens a WHOLE bunch of times, and yet he still manages to "avoid" its negative effects.

Didn't Aranea pretty much confirm that Sylph is the passive to the Seer's active? i.e. "This is what I did as a Sylph of Light. Helped people see things." Whereas we've had no confirmation whatsoever about the Mage's intent.

Yes...?

The Sylph is in many ways the passive version of the seer. I'd assume the Sylph of mind would help others understand those around around them and the choices available to them better. But Seers manipulating outcomes is pretty much the point of the class.

Most of what we know about the mage has to be derived from our one mage player, obviously, so its mostly conjecture, but conjecture at least somewhat supported by evidence.
