 Games and our little minds were strange in that way. Like Contra. Or the Heroes of Might and Magic games.

My progression of platforming games went like this:

- Crash Bandicoot, whichever one I could get my hands on.
- Spiro, the first and third one.
- Jak 2 which was oh my God it was like I just couldn't stop oh man.
- Ratchet and Clank, the second and third, because it's really funny.

I have taken a fairly linear path and man did it make for some good childhood gaming.

Mario 64 was the first, and I believe last 3D platforming game I ever played.  At least the only one I remember with any kind of fondness.  That was basically the last time I had any real connection to console gaming; I feel like I missed a lot, but I'm kinda glad I didn't slog through a decade of crap just to remember the gems.  I suppose I should go back and play them though, like the new Prince of Persias and so forth.

The original POP had a very good, non-whingy-emo story. I quite liked it.

There are some games that I play now, that I can't believe that I could beat as a kid. It's odd, it seems some people actually get worse at some games the older they get.

I grew up on Galaga, The Immortal (my god that game is hard), Gauntlet, and Excitebike. Mario and Sonic were new by the time I hit the console scene. The highest-tech I ever got was Sega Saturn, which had some amazing quality 2D platformers like Astal and Guardan Heroes, and some solid early experiments in 3D as well... Panzer Dragoon and Shining: the Holy Ark (1st person RPG).

One of the few movie games I ever enjoyed was the game based after The Lost World (Jurrasic Park 2)... charging through defensive barricades as a T-Rex, grabing screaming poachers and tossing them into the air before devouring them whole, or even darting around as a Velociraptor, facing off against an Ankylosaurus in the midst of a raging wildfire... it was a very fun adaptation of platformers into pseudo 3D.

I played the demo and really, really liked it but I never ended up picking it up.

I keep MEANING to get around to all the good stuff on the playstation but I never get around to it. Just now I got Perfect Dark and Lemmings 2 though. Nintendo hell yeah. Also, do a barrel roll.

Sly Cooper was the first PS2 game I ever played! (It was a rental) It made me very impressed with the system.

ConAir was an amazing piece of film. Aside from having incredible star power in Dave Chapelle, John Cussack, and John Malkovich,  Nicholas Cage's performance as the Ex-Con with a heart of gold proves once again that he is one of the world's greatest actors.

The story was alternatingly hard-boiled and heartwarming. I almost teared up when he staggered off the wingless plane, bullet wound in his arm, and his prison undershirt stained with smoke and sweat, and he handed little Cassey that bunny. The daughter he never knew, and he fought a plane full of convicts, murderers, and villains to make it to her birthday on time. Someone get the man a "World's Best Dad" mug right now!

If you'll excuse me for a second, I'm... there's something in my eye.

I got to the second or third level... where you get the shape-changing rings, and are caught in the war between the orc/troll things and the goat/goblin things, but that's it. Damned unforgiving game... so many ways to die, and lose all of your progress!
