Gaia online has been doing shit like that for a loooooong time, its not surprise me that they would steal stuff from Homestuck.

What? Did the Gaians add candy corn horns as part of their dress-up moneymaking scheme?

That looks to be exactly what they did.

Probably just fans in the development team wanting to do some shout outs.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Yeah, along with some chat emotes that resembled the kids symbols they had on their shirts.

You know, there's basically no way that "a bizarre extraterrestrial reproductive process involving ponytails, and a magical tree" isn't foreshadowing something.

It was apparently part of the Deja Mood set. Why didn't they just ask Hussie for permission, instead of outright plagiarizing his work?

So, the last couple of updates were very enlightening.  And by "enlightening," I mean "still confusing me while being quite revealing."

Either A) The Gaia Creators are assholes or B) They think that since the primary playerbase is so young, that they won't realize that the stuff they're selling is actually from something else.

Probably a bit of both though.

Think "alternate universe with people genetically identical and otherwise very similar to those that we read about during the five previous acts."
Except it's still the same universe. Which the Beta kids are outside of.

Just for the record, we currently have 3 live Daves around.

Still waiting for that time when the 4 kids and maybe the 12 (intact or otherwise) trolls infiltrate the alpha session and break just about everything ala troll fashion, minus the not-paying-attention-to-the-main-goal thing the trolls did.

Oh hey, he posted something while I was reading that. I don't really have much to say on it because I don't give a shit about Gaia Online.

I honestly don't see what's the big deal about this. Am I missing something? I'm not sure if I can accept a pair of orange horns, a green ghost, a purple jellyfish, a record and a stylised atom as creative works. Even if they were, this might be justifiable as parody, much like Andrew's liberal use of copy-pasted movie posters and horse cock posters. And the candy horns don't even look like troll horns. Is there something I'm failing to grasp about the business model of this "Gaia Online" thing? Business model of Andrew Hussie? Basics of American copyright law?

In other news, I think Jake's bed is also his quest bed. I don't know, it just reminds me so much of one.

I think the problem isn't so much the using of the designs as displaying them as their own creative works, essentially, and profiting off of it. I mean, homestuck clearly derives a good chucnk of imagery from alternative sources, and much of that is even copy pasted, pretty much - the Gaia people at least seem to have drawn the design themselves.

However, selling the design itself, as its own things, rather than as a component of something larger, THAT is where the issue, if any, would be, I think. But I think the law is probably on their side here.
