All I can add to this discussion, is that I remember a part in The Hobbit.  The gang was chased up a tree by wargs, and Gandalf was pitching flaming pinecones at them and getting ready to kill the king in a suicide divebomb.  And there were probably other parts where Gandalf thought he was going to buy the farm, like that business with the Necromancer.  But that was The Hobbit, so I guess it doesn't count.

He goes from gray to white to silver to platinum. On silver he actually does dual class to a gunslinger and starts toting an AK-47.

You forgot the Steel level between silver and platinum, where he comes back smoking a cigar and wears cool shades.

Diamond level after that is cool and all, but then he just sits around pimpin' and never actually does anything because problems resolve themselves for him.  Kind of a letdown.

I have heard rumours of a level byond(SS13: Wrecking my spelling of "beyond" with it's game engine's name) beyond Diamond, but nobody seems willing to cite their sources...

I think if something actually manages to kill him in Diamond, they become the Warrior of a Thousand Fists. Currently, Chuck Norris is rumored to have the title, but Mr. T might be the true bearer.

Hey, I was thinking. John trying to kill the final boss and getting his ass handed to him is a bit of a reference to PS, where they killed the final boss and then got their asses handed to them. Except in PS they did manage to kill the boss, it just didn't take.
