John will be alive when he talks to Karkat for the first time. He's wearing his god tier pajamas and using a computer we've never seen before, so that's in the future. But still, that looked like a pretty nasty stab wound he just got. I really can't fathom how he expects to get out of this one. Maybe his death wasn't heroic enough, and thus doesn't count? Also did Rose just detonate Skaia? ._.

 But yeah, Hussie never specified how their immortality works. It's a very broad term that could mean many different things. There is immortality through reincarnation, regeneration, renewal, quantum and other such methods. He could reappear at his Quest Bed alive, or just rise up as if the stab did nothing, just sort of falling over from the shock of it. He could go through the shiny God-Tier ascendancy again where he lays and be healed of his wounds. Many possibilities here.

 But we do know that he lives. And we also know that:
