Which would make Johns and Jades eye colors the only 'normal' eye colors.
Both purple and red eyes are naturally possible, just rare.

It's kinda sad to see Jade all irritable and disturbed.

On an unrelated note, I just realized that the ending scenes of the Intermission were basically a covert "Snowman: Retrieve Arms from Safe" joke.

If you go one page back from that you see the safe is on a Stylladex card.

Well, I did mean 'normal'. And yea I forgot about albinism, which red eyes are associated with, not sure how purple (or violet) eyes would happen, but conciveably, albinism could be a factor.

Violet eyes have been known to rarely show up in individuals with blue-eyed parents. The light violet color occurs when a light-blue eyed individual has eyes light blue enough that the color appears mixed with the red blood in the eye's veins. Red eyes are commonly associated with albinism, but can also be exibited in those with extremely low melinin count in the eyes, making them transparent to the red blood below.

I always saw HS as an exploration of young people developing relationships over the internet, which is something a lot of people reading it can relate to, and a concept sort of under-represented in fiction of all kinds. I've explored that from a lot of angles so far, at first with the kids amongst each other, delving into existing relationships, and then with the trolls, which has been an exploration of forging new ones, and in particular one of making friends out of adversaries. There's a lot more to HS than just that obviously, but if there's anything which it's been about through and through, it's modern kids relating to each other from afar, developing as people and growing up.

I like this a lot. Further support that he's not just highly entertaining, but also a good author with something new to say. I never thought of this as fiction for young adults growing up in an age where computers and the internet are a staple of life... but it's an interesting way to look at it.

I'm currently making a nice room for my legendary clerk. I always treat my legendaries with the greatest respect, giving them the best rooms and so on. Although the walls are mostly engraved with pictures of my miner starving to death after he fell down a well, so it's not too cheerful.
