Wow, this is amazing, it finall promted me to get reasonable far on an above ground fort. Sorry, no screenshots yet, it's nowhere near done (just starting year 2, haven't even got migrants yet).

Also, before I build it, how do Fortifications at a 45 degree angle work? Like below...

Does anybody know? Or should I just avoid it?

It'll work well providing they are at the top of the structure, ie don't have anything above them. If they do have walls of floors above then they will come out just as walls.

They're going at the top of a castle wall, so awesome.

I will post picks when it's done, but it's not going to be as impressive as any of the things posted already...

Despite not being finished, it is providing quite a bit of entertainment via kittens and captured goblins.

Warning contains mean things.

(smiles)
Also nice colosseum, did you know they use to fill the real one with water from pipeworks that are under it from a previous roman palace and have ship battles.

Ya, I may add that when I finish. There are some areas near the base which would be perfect for it. Unfortunately, I am on a map which freezes for 1 month or so every year, which would utterly destroy my arena floor unless I add magma heating. This will be difficult, since I located my 2 uber legendary champions' tombs under it. One of them has around 180 kills now, so I don't exactly wanna get on her bad side by desecrating her tomb.

So build her a nicer tomb somewhere else. She won't care what you do to the old one after you reassign her tomb.

Windows Vista
I have isolated the problem. Remove this component to fix everything that is wrong in the world.

NO.
NO.
NO.

Vista is not the cause of any more problems then XP or 7.
Maybe UAC, but that's not Vista, that's UAC.
There's a difference, as UAC can be disabled.

Works just fine on my copy of Vista, so go away.

Thanks :) I wanted to call it "Buggerfall", bu there's no "bugger" word in DF :(.
And stop Vista discussion, everyone knows that it's a crap and a microsoft failure but it can be configured to become working* (but still suck because it could work much better with resources it eats), even microsoft admitted it so there's no point to start this discussion again.

I see what you mean, Alway. It's nice anyway, but arches are not obvious :).

P.S. * <- let me make it clearer. If you have to disable the main user protection and privelege mechanism of OS, it's already not a good sign. UAC is a part of Vista so telling "Maybe UAC, but that's not Vista, that's UAC" doesn't make a lot of sense, it's like telling "explorer is not a windows" or "Kaspersky security scan is not a Kaspersky program". Let me disappoint you, UAC is a part of Vista, it's a security infrastructure of the operation system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control

Believe me, I know what I talk. I switched from Vista to Windows 7 and it makes a big difference.
But it's still not a good point for unixoids ;).
