I suggest that the table model be made wider, such that groups of tables form a single cohesive surface.

Also, fortifications with something over them ought to be cross-shaped arrow slits rather than small holes, as the former would probably look better and also better resembles the tile used in-game.

Regarding statue direction, it would probably work to select their direction based on the following criteria, sorted by priority from top to bottom:

-If there is a wall within two tiles of the statue, face away from the wall
-If there is a road or bridge within two tiles of the statue, face the nearest road/bridge tile.
-Face North.

Maybe also fix the terrain bending that placing furniture seems to cause as it looks a bit strange. I've seen a similar effect with placing flooring.

I know smoothing the place fixes it, but still. Also, the same effect on soil seems a bit less extreme than on rock.

Nice, do the gem window tint vary by the color ingame?

Right now, I really wish my damn AC adapter for the laptop hadn't died on me ><.

Well no, they do not. I just did some testing and it seems VisualFortress just takes the color of the last gem the (t) - view items in buildings key shows you (that should be the last gem the the dwarves use to build it, I think)

For example:

You build a gem window:
- star ruby   (red)
- rose quartz (red)
- blue diamond (blue)

This will flash red-red-blue ingame and when examined with the (t)-view items in buildings key the last part is, for whatever reason, star ruby. It will be shown as red in VisualFortress.

That's some nice fortage, Gothmog.
Thank you.  ;D

It may also be possible to use a valuable stone and three cheap stones which are the same color. Valuable and cheap stones cover the spectrum, so I can see it working that way. Which would guarantee that the window will show that color, although it won't be flashing ingame as it's all one color.

The gem page of the wiki can also be of help here.

Amazing visualiser, thank you!

My only problem is that the controls feel awkward. I hate how up/down arrows zoom in/out, it makes changing the viewpoint a real pain. I suggest you separate zooming from movement. Up/down arrows should move the camera, but keep it in the same Z level (like when moving left/right). Zooming could be done using the mousewheel.

What do you think of it, Baboonanza? Thanks.

You do know that you can change the camera hotkeys, right?

Also, to keep it on the same z-level, click the box for isometric.

I imagine Gemstone Windows as a Stained Glass sort. Though I don't know if DV could pull all 3 color values from the materials used in the Window Construction, if it could, you could create a Window that was a mosaic composed of the 3 component colors of used Gemstones.

In theory it could: carve up the window into three separate models, like a jigsaw puzzle, perhaps with a little pattern or image (A happy Dwarf face?).  When it's a gem window, the three pieces are put in and each part is colored to match the gems.

A view of the mostly-completed entrance hall to my current fortress (dark because, hey, it's underground):

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nice to see how it ended up!  Especially with the different levels of the still-filling magma flowing smoothly together.  Overall, I've nothing but praise for this program.  ;D

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

That is a very awesome entryway.
I'd be in awe if I visited your dwarves.

There's only one problem with that pic, and that's that magma's texture looks too cooled.

Here's some slightly hotter magma I applied to VF.  If anyone wants it, just make a copy of the original and drop it into VisualFort\Textures\  I like it because it looks much more "apparent", so to speak.

But magma never looks like that unless it's flowing quickly.
Cooling is what magma does. I like the realistic depiction in the above entry hall.

Can we get one that's in between?  One is very covered in an obsidian shell, the other is extremely liquid.

Speaking to the creator: is it possible to use different textures based on the flow?  I.E. flowing magma has one texture, static magma has another.
