Kewl, checking it out now. :)

Edit: 'Houston...we have a problem....'

I don't know what is going on, but it now just crashes the instant I hit ctrl+r. There is no error message or anything, the preload box doesn't come up, it just instantly whites out and I get the vista message that the program has stopped responding.

The arrow slits. They work in one direction: when the fortifications go west-east, but when it goes north-south - there's a problem...

And same closer:

Same from inside (with corner Fortification inside, too):

The only dragon I've seen in game walked into my rats nest of a fortress and died in the flames of the conflagration he started in the dining hall.  Of course, nearly every dwarf was dead by then, but we consider it a tactical victory.

Bugger. I just had a flashback of thinking to myself 'I should test the fortifications properly'.

Obviously I forgot :). I'll fix it ASAP (Monday probably)

What about the crash problem I'm having? I don't know why mayday's graphics mod is causing so many issues.

Love the new fortifications! But to reiterate what several others posted:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Statues look great as well. Is their direction simply random though?

Bridges don't quite line up right...but otherwise they look great!
Here is a retracting-bridge trap I built to trap goblins in a pit:

Beds look nice also. Here is my throne room, with bedrooms for nobles in the back and legendary dwarves off to the sides. It may not look like much, but they love it =]

*WAVES FRANTICALLY* What about the dang crash problem???? I really want to see the new stuff (even though my new fort isn't much to look at atm.

Edit: There should be some kind of error reporting thing so that crashes and other problems can be dealt with more easily. I'm using windows vista btw.

I run mayday and have had no problems. Are you sure it's not being caused by some other aspect of your setup?

I am getting a crash when I load a fortress. It happens while "Loading blocks...", here is what crash window said:
Code: [Select]
AppName: visualfortress.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: atioglxx.dll
ModVer: 6.14.10.5949 Offset: 00245a9d

Happens wih both 40d and 40d14.
Will try to update drivers and stuff.

Never mind. Updated ATI drivers to 9.3 and it now WORKS! ;D Sorry for the problem.
But I am sure some other application will break now...

This is amazing. Imagine this being rendered in real time then being able to manipulate the dwarf world through the viewer screen....  :)

hmm, I'll try updating my drivers and stuff. I'm not sure what's going on either. I don't have time right now, but I'll do that later.

Ok I figured out that when I set "Hardware acceleration" to fourth setting or higher in the ATI Control Panel, then Visual Fortress crashes like above while "Loading blocks...".

But when I set "Hardware acceleration" to third setting or lower then Visual Fortress actually finishes loading map (log says "Done") then shows the whole side menu and then crashes...
Crash window said this:
Code: [Select]
AppName: visualfortress.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: opengl32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00008339

Updating drivers now, I have quite old ones, although any newer version was breaking one thing or another... Damn ATI's lack of support for any card except the newest...

Never mind. Updated ATI drivers to 9.3 and it now WORKS! ;D Sorry for the problem.
But I am sure some other application will break now...

Bloody fortifications.
Statues are supposed to face away from the walls. I have no idea why that one statues decided to face the other way, personally I'd be pretty freaked out about that statue looking at me while I slept!
I think the bridge being off is caused by the random noise applied to the terrain (it does XY and Z noise). I should be able to disable it on the tiles around bridges.
EDIT: I see you also get those black polygons  >:( It does look as if it's related to normals/lighting in some way...

And I would always recommend updating graphics drivers if you get random 3D crashes. Otherwise I need to see the VisualFortress.log file. The crashwindow info just tells me it crashed in the graphics driver, but there may have been things that failed earlier in the setup to cause it.
