This is my attempt at a 3D visualisation app. It's focused on displaying mega-projects and landscapes accurately and hopefully beautifully. Basically like 3Dwarf, but more advanced.
It supports all 40d# versions. Windows only, though a linux version may follow.
If you have performance issues check VisualFortress.ini and disable anti-aliasing first.
Get it here:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=1272This is a screenshot of my last mega project, the Unfillable Dam:
It's constructed entirely out of blocks (many thousands) and houses the whole fortress. For scale, the face on in the picture is 14 levels high.
This is
Inquisitor Saturn's Boatveiled fortress, it menaces with stripes of Microline:
Minimum requirements:(ie. the crappiest computer I've ever run it on:) ):
Windows XP or greater,
1GB RAM
Some sort of processor
Geforce 2 MX 400 or higher
Basic instructions:- Start Dwarf Fortress and load/start a game
- Start the VisualFortress.exe
- Select File->Dump From DF
- A dialog with options is displayed, you can just click 'OK'
- Wait until the map loads
The WSAD keys move the camera and holding down the left mouse button pans it. You can change to one of the preset cameras by selecting it from the list on the left. It's also possible to save your own camera positions, but there isn't much point in this until map export/impiorting is added.
Holding SHIFT makes the camera move faster. How much faster it goes is controlled by a slider on the left.
The slice tool can be used to look at the interior layout of the fortress, just drag the slider to the level you want. Geometry will be created to fill in the gaps after you release the slider.
Future developmentI have a long list of things to add/improve, but the next 3 major items are:
- Map file export/import. Export/import in a custom format and possible export as a .OBJ file.
- Sky dome. I've been waiting until I had the time to do a really nice one rather than just slapping a crappy one on
- Improved material appearance. Possibly bump maps too.
This might take a little while though, I've just bought a new house and have many chores!
