Alternatively, a Religion check on bears provides the following:

    * DC15: Bears do not attend any continuous services of worship. They are ready to kill at all hours of the week.

    * DC20: They mysteriously vanish every winter, perhaps to give reverence to their perverse fertility goddess while gorging on the souls of men lost to famine.

    * DC25: Bear society has no visibly ordained clerics.

    * DC35: SHIT NEVERMIND THEY HAVE THEM RUN.

Bears with player classes are probably the most terrifying thing I've ever heard of in my life.  These are the kinds of things that would make humans extinct.

A knowledge(Nature) check is still a good idea though.  Just because you think you know everything about them doesn't mean the character hasn't heard some anecdote somewhere that will give you an edge.

I'll take a shot at it, for obvious reasons.

You rolled a 17, with your int bonus that's 20.  Aside from the stupid obvious stuff you know about spiders(see Bear lore, above) you remember an adventurer who passed through town a few years ago mentioned that giant cave spider webs came apart and melted if you held a torch near them, and that the spiders themselves were afraid of fire.

seeing as noone thought to bring a torch, search for something that we could make into a torche (at least i got flint and tinder) (or in the case of the cleric no supplies at all)

When has anybody every actually bothered to list their supplies?  Every game I've ever played, everybody just assumed we had a hammerspace knapsack with whatever adventuring supplies we needed.  And it's always light enough.

Except for that time the DM's brother ran a game and insisted everyone realistically check their pack weight, so we all made sure to pack Rods of Wonder.  Oh what fun we had...

Yeah, I've always considered torches to be something you assumed you had.

And I've always assumed choosing the Mounted Combat proficiency should net you a free horse, but you can't be right all the time.

You mean supplies that weren't ammo? Since, like, never.

I don't know, I didn't realize how time-consuming PBP games were, and I got the rulebook for Dark Heresy, and it's like a thousand times better than Dungeons and Dragons, so I just kinda let the thread sink.
