Hey! Guys! We don't really need a power source.
Do weapon traps need power sources?!?
NO!

Here. Construct a weapon trap mechanism.  The same type that you use for weapon traps.
Construct a pressure plate mechanism, for the trap.
Go to the leatherworkers. Get 1 *leather glove*.

He's said that mechanisms aren't the magic devices they are in DF and we need to put some thought into this.

make a towercap treadmill.

find an available prosoner/cat to power said treadmill.

if using a prisoner, put a caged beastie behind him for encouragement, otherwise keep a caged rodent in front of the cat.

You contemplate other ways to get power, and realize that a windmill on top of the shop whit a shaft wound would work, at least for the shop. for the trap, however, the normal manually-set-counterweight-and-leaver system ((not magic like DF weapon traps, but more like the stonefall traps as it need to be reset after a few uses.)) you use for weapon traps would be enough. You grab some more microline and make it.
Then you need the leather, you head to the dining hall to find your wives cat, but you can find her so you just grab some random stray. you head down to the butchers and tanners and soon get it processed into the stripes you need as well as a nice glove.
The struggling of the cat gives you an idea: wearing the glove you go to grab one of the forts precious towercap logs, and process it into a treadmill, while trying to figure out what made you use wood instead of the stone you are much more proficient whit. you catch another stray, put it into the treadmill, and attach the hole thing to the counterweight system so it will reset itself. You tie a small vermin corpse in front of the cat, but the feline soon figures out it cant get to it and stops running.

Set it up near the nobles quarters.

Oh, and give it the vermin.

Then put the damn thing together then. Where ever we want it set up.  Put it together where we want it.
Oh, but add some finishing touches, like spikes of basalt, rock salt, fiberglass, and hanging rings of microline.

We examine the trap, using our fine expertise in crafting to determine what flaw could possibly remain in this amazing contraption.

Perhaps bait?

> Ignore those worthless ideas for the moment, and run steam-pipes along some of the corridors, ideally to your workshop, starting wherever you can make a pit and fill it with magma, after running a steel pipe heat exchanger through it(one end a one-way valve leading to a pump powered by the steam output to force water into the system from water-pipes leading from a river) and a steel steam storage tank above the magma-pit to keep the steam heated in storage.

Include a master shutoff valve linked to a nearby lever and one in your workshop.
Also have an emergency pressure vent lever as well with the shutoff. (pressure vent on storage, master shutoff between the storage and network-to-be).

Similar to the ones in some of the pictures here:

You contemplate what more needs to be done whit the noble slapper: YOu have curently an arm, and a glove to put on it for slapping, you also have a powersource althou you need to find a better way to make the cat run. You still need some kind of mechanism to make it activate when a noble is whitin range, and you need to install it somwere nobles are likely to pass by.

You leve the components at your workshop, and goes to your next project for the moment, however you are not a mettalsmith, and thus simply have to ask those who are to make pipes for you. While you wait for your pipes to be finnished you go to make a pit to dip it into magama, but it turns out there is alredy a spot by the magma forge so you dont have to do any digging. You then go and set up the water pump and construct the verius valves and such you will need. this dosnt take long and you are done long before the pipes finnish. What to do while you wait?

Create a trap, find a severed hand for trap, put trap on wall where most nobles go by, some how find a way to conceal self, trap is triggered on a pressure plate, which sends the hand hitting the nobles face.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
THERE A PLAN AND HOW IT WORKS.
Second Plan: Crossbows don't have enough FIYAH, Items needed:               * MUST BE AIRTIGHT *
-A log to make into a rifle body about the length of a two handed sword.
-A bag with a hole for the rifles butt area, the area will have a hole, and a tube to secure bags hole with the hole in the area,a plug is needed for the tube.
-There is a small cavity, for cartridges.
-A hole will be made for main bag opening, heading toward the metal barrel inside the rifle body, the hole and opening shall need a tube.
-A covering to make the barrel stay in place.
-A switch connected near the hole connected with Bag Opening
-The *gas* of a creature, preferably an elephant, to be put into bag.
- For it to work the switch shall be used, creating a small explosion due to gas, which will propel the ammo out of the rifle.
Arrrrgggg, well I will put my plan here as well as my second plan.

Alright. So I thought we made a pressure plate?

Cause if we didn't, that's what we need.
