They had arrived.
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:29:47 pm »

I wrote this short story a while ago, it is about my first encounter with a GCS. I hope you enjoy.

They had arrived! Many moons ago it was decided, one stronghold was not enough. Years ago there were many, many fortresses build by the dwarfen people. But in the year 27 the elves came. They killed and ate all in their path, never stopping! By the year 46 there was one left, one stronghold of the dwarfen people. The elves, thinking that their ancient enemy was gone, went back to the forests. The elves have grown weak. The time to strike was now! Rebuild our forces in the west, crush the elves. Feed their bones to the dogs! They had arrived!

7 handpicked dwarfs, all the supplies a wagon could handle. They were brave but not stupid, even the decadent elves would take note of more than one wagon. They had arrived! They set up camp in a small valley on the edge of a huge mountain with a brook running through it. They got to work, even got two workshops set up before IT happened. Their leader, accountant, and trader went off to scout. IT found him, all they ever heard was the scream, and they came running they saw a gigantic spider chewing on his corpse! They were brave, they outnumbered it 6 to one, they charged, they died. In the end all that was left was the farmer beating on it with his fists, meanwhile it slept off its meal, ignoring him. The farmer realized that he could not hurt it like this. “Didn’t the smith say he brung the stuff to make weapons?” he thought to his self. He ran back to the caravan “Yes there it is charcoal and copper bars!” he labored away, making a crude pick. Finally he was done; he had what could be called a pick. He attacked! The only thing that happened was the pick got stuck in-between the spider’s chitin plates. In a rage he quickly went back to the forge and banged out a hunk of copper in the shape of what could be an axe. Raged over to the spider and stuck! Once! Twice! Three times! The spider woke up. It grabbed him by the leg and tore it off! But the deed was done, the spider lay bleeding heavily, it slowly died. In the end it was just the famer slowly fading…
