I know which option I'm choosing....

y'know, destroying the artifact. Who would want: 1, a powerful and awesome magical artifact that made you seem like a god. 2, the xp from slaughtering 100 townsfolk. 3, the goodwill of the elves.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I don't think these artifacts would even need to drive the character insane.  The lure of Godlike power is enough to drive most players insane anyway  ;D.

In this game?

Most of us do act like crazies, and that's without the corrupting influence of any powerful artifacts.

Imagine what it would be like if we did!

No! Kill the children first damn you. I can't drink the tears of their mothers if you slaughter the women first.

Dragons gathering magical artifacts would give us a reason to kill the bloody things. As is they're not much of a challange and they don't give us jack when we beat them.

Just put hairspray and matches in the game
See what would happen

You read a lot about dragons hoarding items in the legends pages but never anything useful  :(

Ok so I read the first page and skipped the next seven and now I'm posting a comment. There IS a fear system, in fortress mode. Sieges run in fear with somewhat complex mechanics; some squads fight to the death, some retreat without even being touched when other squads are destroyed and most flee after heavy casualties are taken. The [No Fear] tag I believe means they won't flee.

It just makes the casualty count more tolerable

I've raided a few dragon hoards. I found a few socks, some bones, a cup or two and a left arm. Magical.

There is a very very basic fear system. Basically it comes down to (in adventure mode) fight until you're critically wounded, regardless of who you are and who your enemy is. The sieges in fortress mode aren't much better, but they are a little more realistic. Still, in adventure mode you'll have 4 year olds bum rushing dragons. Not very realistic.

Well, that left arm could be used for graphic beatdowns, plus one can never have too many socks.  ;D

I've only ever found the regular crafts items lying around and never in a dragon lair.
