OK, I officially say that this thread has been derailed.

On topic: I'd like to have a fear system. For now all sentient creatures are Rambos.

Well, besiegers do run when SQUAD SIEGE BROKEN happens.

Yeah, but it's pretty hardcoded. The creature behaviour doesn't have such thing or at least needs tweaking.

Whenever I send a few soldiers to clean out some wolves, the wolves scamper off so there must be a rudimentary "inferior numbers" fear reaction.

But yeah I get what you mean. I haven't seen, say, a cougar engage then try to back off after it gets its <lower right leg> chopped off. It keeps on fighting from what I remember.

The fact that whether or not they still have legs is a factor is one of the main reasons I love this game. ;D

Well yeah wolves run but I think the reaction is a set code in the type of creature rather than an actual fear system.

Yeah, and current fear system is governed by "civillian/military" status. I.e. if a dwarf is afraid of a dragon, you draft him and he doesn't care. So there's no real fear, just a simple and unrealistic set of rules.

P.S. It's not carried over into adventure mode where there's no pre-combat fear at all.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

So far the only fear reactions I've seen in humans in adventure mode happens when you do some pretty brutal damage to them. Being a lasher, its pretty common for my enemies to be pretty tore up before they die. Often times they'll drag themselves away (when they're conscious) and try to hide.

Still though, it needs to be deeper then that. I mean, children my get into a little retard rage over their parents dying but I can assure you that after a whip to the face they'd turn tail.

Plus, we could implement all sorts of fun things, like if a person encounters a creature or other person that has a fear count much much higher then the person then the person can go insane.

I call the Cthulu mythos mod once this is implemented.

All I want is trenches and mustard gas, artillery, and duel wielding.

You should be able to rip branches off trees, set them on fire, set everyone else on fire, and be written in history as hitler the best pyro ever.
Being on fire should heighten fear.

I've seen horribly injured recruits try to crawl away from a fight.

e: and they weren't crawling toward a bed either
