Additional Manager functions
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:40:00 am »

Auto-assign farms to replant the same crops from last year.

Conditional jobs: If drink < 100 brew drink (especially useful for cooking prepared meals and rendering fat, both seem to get canceled every so often!)  Relies on the stocks accuracy data.

Also in conditional: Clothesmaking!  Determine if clothes are needed and the facilities/materials exist.  If so, make them!  No more naked dwarves.   :)

Another function of either the manager or captain of the guard: Duty rotation.  So there are always some dwarves on duty but they don't get unhappy from serving for too long.

I agree with this. I've been puzzling around trying to figure out how to guard my two separate gates without having one squad on duty for years at a time. Only solution at the moment is to remember how long each squad has been on duty and swap their "on/off duty" status manually with another squad.

Train Animals would be good too.

Sound like good ideas, right now I can't fathom a reason to assign a sheriff or guard captain but I'd love it if they could help micromanage my military (things like rotating duty off/on), and there's no reason to have a manager all the time if I only want to assign the occasional job but I'm getting sick of my dwarves dehydrating to death on dry maps when I have plenty of barrels and brewable plants.  :)

More year-round macromanagement jobs for each of your nobles could in some ways add to the challenge, you couldn't just stack all the positions on one dwarf and give them a perfect bedroom/office/dining room, which would seem a viable idea right now.

I would love the conditional jobs. That'd really cut down on drudgery... and make the manager actually useful for something.
