5,500 feet, in fact.

I just got back from an introductory flying lesson. Went up in a two-seater light commuter. She was described thusly; "Take a top-of-the-line sportscar, and add wings." I have "flown" in flight sims but there really is absolutely no comparison- To see the ground drift away, and to feel the plane shift and move with only the slightest force on the stick... It's definitely worth getting away from the screen.

Anyone else ever fly?

I haven't died in a plane crash yet, so I can't say I've ever flown a plane.

My Grandparents used to own a private plane, but it was one of those larger ones, like a flying RV, and needed it's own licensed pilot.  Also I was nine years old, but I did get to watch out the cockpit window as we took off.

My Dad studied to be a light plane pilot, but I never got to fly with him.  He's still committed to building his own plane some day, and every other year starts gathering up aluminum and motorcycle engines.

I went up really high in a roller-coaster a few times.
But no, I've never flown a plane.
I love heights.
I was deathly terrified of them as a kid.
I want to go base jumping in the Andes.

I'm a pilot at heart, once I get my life sorted out, definitely going for my pilots license. Been up in a Cessna a few times, nothing better.

At one point I was going to go commercial, but I just can't see myself flying a jet, besides you have to adhere to strict flight paths and what not, no freedom.

There's not really any "freedom" in private planes either - if you think the FAA are sticklers about commercial pilots sticking to the plan, you should see what they do to private people who wander into commercial airspace.  Which is basically everywhere you would ever want to go.

Well around here there's not much in the way of air traffic except for the occasional private plane, military jet at high altitude or formation of cargo planes flying under the radar. 

Nearest city doesn't really have much in the way of commercial traffic either, only a small municipal airport.

Also, remember that if you're a commercial pilot you could have a few hundred people's lives in your hands.


Considering my success rate with most things, I would cause a lot of people to die.

Yeah, but you'd only have to worry about that happening one time.

That's true, and I wouldn't have to worry about the repercussions because I'd be dead too.

I've decided, I'm going to become a commercial airliner pilot.

I'm scared of heights, I'll take the other kind of high.

Rollercoasters are amazing though...but I'll never skydive.

Huh, Up here out in the boonies, it's apparently much more open. I was able to go for a nice lap around the area without any problems about airspace.

Well, yeah, because that airspace was cordoned off for your lesson.  I'm talking about spurious joyriding.

Meh, only gone on various Boeings here (usually 737s).  Safest way to travel, mile for mile.
