This is a masterful elf skull totem. It menaces with spikes of elf bone. On it is an image of an elf in elf leather. The elf is being struck down.

You gotta do this to all the bolts too. Everyone who escapes alive and with some arrows stuck to them would be rich!

Your armours got jewels that got jewels that got jewels that got jewels that got jewels that got jewels.
This is true bling.

Yo Dawg, we heard you like Bling, so we put some Bling on yo Bling, so you can sparkle while you sparkle.

Damn, I wasn't the first one. Mine was going to be:

Urist McNakedDwarf: Where's all my armors?
Uris McXzibit: Yo Dawg, we heard you like Shinies, so we puttin' Shinies on your Shinies so you can Shine while you Shine.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

I thought you could only have one decoration of each type on an item? One pig iron, one jasper, one ruby...

That gives an upper limit, and therefore defines "enough":.

TBH, I think that all dwarf fortress problem solving falls either on the "Rube Goldberg" method, or the "pharaonic" one.
{Unicorns} produce more bones if the werewolf rips them apart before they die.

Not quite. You can have one of every type of bone, for example, not just one bone decoration. Glass and gems seem to work the same way, but I don't know about metal, never used that for decoration. Sewn images, on the other hand, work differently: you can have only one sewn image, regardless of cloth/leather that's used for it.

So that's it: Enough bling is one of everything. One of every metal (except [brittle] metals?), every gem, one sewn image, every bone...

Extra points if it has multiple images of any recursive artifact on it!

Imagine the horror as the goblins realize that their enemy's armor is decorated with dragon, unicorn, elephant, carp, and goblin bone.

My fortress has a suit of artifact steel plate armor, along with a few native aluminum coffins.

Nearly everything is decorated with the steel plate, a coffin, or a tentacle demon.

Urist McDungeonmaster REALLY likes her tentacle demons.  :o

The best part: they have claws.

Is there a limit to how many decorations something can have?

So we're gonna have an *<<=Adamantine Left Gauntlet=>>* that has Planepacked-style fractal images, and is decorated with every single random item that your dwarves can get their grubby little hands on?

And you're going to have multiple sets of this stuff? Your soldiers are going to look like an army of friggin' Christmas trees! Don't blame me when your processor bursts into flame.

If I remember correctly, the more crap on artifact weapons/armor the stronger it is.  Is that right?

Does it work the same for non-artifacts?

I was talking about importing alimunim.
And we were hypothesising about the sexual relations between elves and trees.

I don't think so, the only things that matter for that that I know of are;
Material(Iron, steel, copper..etc)
Quality(Masterwork, exceptional, etc)

Artifacts count as something above masterwork, and the exact bonus artifacts give is not really known, but a copper artifact axe should be at least as good as a masterwork copper axe.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

No. Only thing that matters is the base item quality and material.

Decorations are just decorations. They can massively improve the value of the item, but not its strength.

I think you meant "should be at least as good as a masterwork _iron_ axe.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

That's not true...

MW Iron is 100% damage(material) * 2.0(quality)
Artifact Copper is 66% damage(material) * ?(quality)

It appears that quality for Artifacts is also *2.0

At any rate, it would have to be at least 3.0 in order to be equivilent, and that's not supported by anything non-anecdotal
