Why are you guys so angry about class-based combat? At least they're trying to mix it up. Who knows, maybe it'll even be good.

Optimistic
There's a difference between optimistic and downright silly and impossible.
Command and Conquer 4 would be a great game if they simplified everything. Every unit doesn't need a special ability ffs. It just creates balance problems before the game is even made.
Only if those special abilities make some sense... Most of the time the unit should know whether to use the ability or not. One of the under-the-hood special abilities of infantry in C&C is to hit the deck (Go prone.) and take less damage (Since less bullets are hitting them apparently.) but move slower. It happens AUTOMATICALLY if the unit is taking too much damage in a certain span of time. Then if they don't take any damage in a certain span of time, they stop it and go back to normal. Or you force them to do it by using the force move command.
Special abilities need to be more common and under-the-hood. For example, each infantry squad should be more varied. Have YOU ever seen a squad with no grenadier or sniper? Each infantry squad has at least ONE kind of special unit. In real life at least.
Well normally each squad has MORE than one. Usually it's 1 or 2 sniper/s, 1 grenadier, 2 medics, 4 Heavy Weapons specialists (Light machine gun.) and about 5 riflemen. They ALL carry a standard assault rifle (Except snipers obviously. Grenadiers carry an attached grenade launcher to their assault rifle usually.)
This kind of squad structure is FAR BETTER than 20 or so riflemen. The squad is designed to work as ONE operational unit.
I think I got my terms mixed up. As in it's not called a squad but a regiment or whatever. Frankly, I don't know and I can't be arsed right now to look it up. So you know what I meant. Correct me please.
I want more special abilities like "Deploy smoke", "Concentrate fire", "Move carefully (Use cover and covering fire when moving)", "Tactical retreat", "Skirmish", "Call in artillery" and "Help unit under attack"
They should do all of these and more, automatically with 0 player input. They should deploy smoke if they need to move unseen due to sniper cover or to cover a retreat/advancement.
They should concentrate fire on particularly tough targets when the other targets are not much of a threat.
They should more carefully (Basically watch where you move before moving.) if there's any reason to suspect enemy presence.
They should use a tactical retreat if they are being defeated and units around them are retreating as well. This is NOT a normal retreat. This is basically "Covering fire" while running from cover to cover back to the closest base.
Etc.
Of course, I want to remove the whole

Edit: Sorry, I meant
