Well now this is weird. My fortress has been around quite a while now, with a pretty respectable amount of generated wealth. Megabeasts have become pretty fond of showing up. 5 dragons, titans, giants, etc.

This is a first, though. The latest dragon to show up is already tamed! (tame) tag and all!

Here I was expecting to snag it in a cage trap so I could tame it, and it walks right over the traps, waltzes past my troops (at this point, I was having an "oh crap, oh crap" moment thinking it was going to turn my meeting hall into a hellish inferno) only to join my dwarves in the exterior meeting area... and chill out with them.

Talk about an anticlimax! Convenient, though. I chained her in the entryway with a platinum chain.

Was she tame in another fortress you had in the same world?

Nope, this is the first fortress in this world that was around long enough for megabeasts to start showing up.

I'm pretty confused. There doesn't seem to be any logical reason to have a tame dragon show up.

Maybe it's one of those good aligned dragons who don't have a desire to burn down the countryside and eat anything that challenges it?

Danarca is right though, the answer would be in legends.

Edit: I think I'll turn invasions back on, the fortresses are getting boring without gobbo raids, not to mention I've never experienced the megabeast stuff.

Edit: I think I'll turn invasions back on, the fortresses are getting boring without gobbo raids, not to mention I've never experienced the megabeast stuff.

The dragon is a sleeper cell. He's going to take advantage of a siege to start a flame spiral.

Giants don't attack forts.

Anyway, post a save and we'll figure out what happened through legends and such.

Legends is full of the usual devouring of livestock and destroying of hovels. The dragon was worshipped by a pretty long list of humans. There's absolutely nothing indicating why on earth she appeared pre-tamed, though. She had only ever struck down a single dwarf, and it wasn't of my fortress' civilization.

Only mods running are the basic Martial Arts (new bodies and attacks only) and the "It's the small things" mod, plus uncutter/deblocker mod.

Seems like a bug.

Seems to me the sight of your awsome fort must have tamed her agression. When the awe wears off she'll destroy your fort from within.

No no, she's clearly become a goddess and is being benevolent in order to gain your fort's worship.

I'm running 40d9 if it matters, though it shouldn't.

And no, none of the mods I'm using (3 mods total, I think) change taming at all. Martial Arts might change the dragon raws, but only physiologically... and before this dragon showed up the fort had been attacked by 3 or 4 others quite normally.
