It would be nice if there would be a linked screen from the military menu to show what weapons and armor are available in the fortress.  Then when I'm setting weapon preferences on new recruits, I could set them up to try and use whatever is sitting around spare.  A lot of times when I have new immigrants show up, I'm not sure if I have any unused swords or crossbows or what sitting around, and the only way to check is to manually sift through every armor stand and weapons rack, and check my metalsmith.  Or wait until the next trade caravan shows up, when I can sort through everything on the "move stuff to depot" screen  :)

You can see your weapons under Stocks on the [z] screen once you get the appropriate noble (the Manager, maybe)?
