I'm not even sure what the "Liberal media" is.  In the UK, for instance, there's only one broadly liberal paper (the Guardian).  America has all sorts of conservative outlets, like Fox News.

I'm not sure why he seemed so lost, since quite a few mutations could "increase the information" in the genome by adding base pairs, or activating sections of the genome that had been deactivated. This is something anybody in genetics 101, and certainly Richard Dawkins, would know.

probably he was in a tight spot as the question was obviously a setup for a creationism-trap.

like :
"ha, so you admit that random mutation is the only way evolution can add information and complexity!" "Our misunderstanding of chance proves you are wrong!"

The logical thing to do is
a)overanalyse the question to come up with an answer that does not lead to the closing of the trap.
Failing that
b) answer the fallacy that lies at the base of the 'trap''s reasoning.


One way is addition mutation, but such does hardly add functional traits.
Most new traits (which I assume they mean with information) arise from duplicate copies of a gene mutating.
A new gene or promotor does not come out of a single mutation event, obviously.

S like having multiple working drafts of a file on your drive and working on them in turn. Some may be redundant backups, scrap and useless, but some you will want to save, probably more than the single one you were going for.

I suppose so, still it seems like (given that he obviously would have known a correct answer to the question) he could have given it and then let them make fools of themselves by demonstrating they didn't understand genetics.
