Heh.

Dwarf Fortress.

Then, Creatures.

After that, Open Creatures.

I think that's all?

There was this C64 game called Little Computer People that was basically something of a Sims predecessor. I recall being able to emulate this using a version from the Underdogs.

I also recall once seeing something of the sort at the Underdogs. But I can't recall what it was called. Something that required an emulator and possibly a fan translation, probably for the SNES or Genesis. Basically had you guiding some pinochio-like artificial humanoid in Creatures-like perspective via awkward cursor controls (awkward because you were supposed to guide the cursor using a gamepad).

Then there's Black & White, where you have your creature to teach and care about. Basically the best thing about the game. The strategic portion of the game is slow, dull, boring and heavily scripted.

The agonizing thing about Black & White is that the underlying mechanics are incredible while the actual forced gameplay-- storyline, objectives, and what have you-- are utterly horrible.

That's why you download a sandbox map.

I am so happy that noone here told spore. Because it's an arcade and doesn't deserve to belong here.

Oh wait. I did it. *kills himself*

True, true. But imagine how much better it'd be, even, if the developers didn't waste time on the "campaign". All of that effort could have gone elsewhere...

I simply cannot figure out how to work Darwinbots. I have the program up and working, but getting it to do anything seems to be monumentally hard.

That's the fun part.  Try getting a stable eco system.  The bot code you have to learn to understand it too.

I mean, I have the program in front of me, but I don't know what any of the commands do or how to do anything. I haven't done anything yet, and it's getting frustrating trying to figure out how to even plop the guys down.
