I've got an idea.

Catch a hornet, put it in the ring-box, and shake it lightly, then give it to her.  When she opens it, an enraged hornet will attack her.  If she doesn't appreciate the joke, she's not the one.

Even better:
Spray the hornet with booze first.
When it's drunk, snip off its stinger.
That way, it can't sting, but the joke is still effective.

I got some of that stuff in a geode once.
Anyways, all agate is good.

As for the hornets, it might be possible.
I'm not actually talking about full removal of the stinger, I mean removing the tip.
If you snip off the tip, they are unable to sting.

It doesn't seem likely.  Those stingers aren't very big and I don't know how you'd manage to get it extended enough to cut it off without causing serious injury.
