Help?
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:58:49 am »

There is a hornet sitting on my bed which is keeping me from sleeping. Every time I try to swat it, it moves and the last time I tried it stung me. What should I do?

Leave for a while, open the windows and hope it flies away. Failing that, grab a newspaper and swat it with that. Don't use your hand to swat it! If you're really desperate, toss a bucket of water on it.. they don't fly so well when wet.

I used a fly swatter, I don't want my bed wet. and it's been there for an hour with the window open.

Fill your room with smoke, it stuns them. Any type of smoke will do. It's what apiculturists do.

Actually, I just wanted to use the word apiculturist. Keep swatting, using increasingly large and deadly objects. Or fan it until it gets bothered enough to fly away.

You could try luring it somewhere with something sweet and either trapping it or swatting it.

I thought bees died if they stung you? Might be just your typical bees though.

dude, you must be swatting badly if it's surviving. Strike at it as if you intended to kill it.

If you keep FAILing consider going Hitler on it. Use insecticide.

Hornets don't have barbed stingers.  They can sting you a bunch, but I'm pretty sure it'll still come out if they sting you enough.

Anyway, if you don't want to get your bed wet use a spray bottle.  That'll dry up in a few minutes and do the same thing.

If you really want to be a man, just hit it with your forehead until one of you dies.

Gloves + long sleeve shirt + long pants + socks + balaclava = more than enough to punch out a hornet.

I got the biggest book I could find on my shelf (Harry Potter 5, as it turns out) and whacked a hornet to kill it, once.  Now the book is rather dirty, but the hornet certainly learned never to mess with the might of 766 pages of children's novel, (with a hardback, of course) a lesson it would never forget.

I realise now that instead of going for the weightiest book, I probably should have gone for one with a bigger cover.  Eh, whatever.

Jesus, you're not clubbing a goat to death! You should've gone for the Highlights:

Yeah, I now have the New Scientist, the Private Eye and various sections of the Guardian lying around in my room, all of which are potentially deadly.  Hmm, I wonder whether the New Scientist's glossy back gives it the edge over the private eye, and whether the extra surface area of the Guardian makes up for the fact that the pages aren't stuck together...

But I digress.

And so the epic tale of the hornet has ended. What did we learn today, kids?
