Worldmap Fastfoward
« on: July 24, 2009, 02:35:44 pm »

I was thinking it would be sort of cool to have a function that, upon an existing map, in which you might or might not have already played, there was an option to fastfoward the world, by having it continue to run worldgen functions (some of them at least) till the specified date.

I like. Play a fortress in 200, and then fast foreward a little bit and see the effects of your toppling of the demon Axegargles, and then reappear in the world with another fortress.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

When the world is offloaded, a lot of the detail is lost or stored in an incompatable format with worldgen.  Basically you can't go back and forth (as yet).

For resuming world gen after playing some, see the relevant suggestion pile
(Here's one, at least)

Although Poo, you may have a point... it should be possible to restart history after you've had your looky loo at the end of worldgen but before units are stopped.  I know you can pause world gen to take a look around and this shouldn't be much different.

I dont mean to go back and forth. I mean to speed the passage of time.

FOR THE RECORD:

I have found, looking at legends, that the AI keeps forming settlements and the like after you start a game.

I meant back and forth between worldgen activities and play activities

I dunno about fast forwarding, but AFAIK, continuing the world gen after you played in it is in the dev list, since right now all world events except the ones caused by your adventurer/fortress stop happening.

Well, true that, but it would be nice to get some fair warning that a link on DF was besmattered with porn.  I mean, the "how old are DF players?" thread has shown there are 13 year-olds on here.

That would indeed be "not cool."

Yeah, but 13 year olds can learn, can't they? It's never too early to start f*cking with their heads.

*applaud*

on another note: It's not like I check my images very often. I dont know what kind of popups pop up.

It IS strange that porn pops up because you have to specify if images are "adult" or "family safe". If images put up as family safe end up with porn publicity it kills the point

There's plenty of free places to post images that don't have popups at all.  Not only are there children around, but people sometimes read the forum from work or other places where pornography is inappropriate or liable to get them in trouble.

Firefox or not, popup blocker or not, IT IS NOT COOL.

I understand that you did not know that there was a problem.  That is a good opportunity to say 'Oops, I'm sorry, I'll reformat my post to pull it out', not to talk about how there's no reason for you to know or any other crap.  You screwed up, fix it.

Thank you... sorry I lost my temper.

You should try tinyURL, that seems to work well, is free, and doesn't have issues.

ok, it seems that this thing does put up adult popups even in family-safe images. I removed the link due to very valid concerns stated.

That being said, I dont appretiate your tone.
