Give me a gun that cures zombie virus non-lethally.  Now that could be interesting game.  It could be like, a zombie apocalypse where the zombies aren't undead but just infected with some rage disease or whatever, and like, the surviving healthy humans develop a cure, only, how do they administer it to a population that's gone totally violently psychotic?
Sounds like this game, actually.

How exactly?

The description in that link might seem a little bit off, but if you'd try it, you'd see what I mean.

People are "infected" with a "rage disease" and mostly come at you all shambley and once you got a tape and some batteries you can hit em with sounds from your ghetto blaster to cure 'em. Well, actually you turn em into dancing zombies, but that was the eighties for you. Every AI looked like a zombie  ;D

No, seriously. Play it. It's the game you described. Only music's the gun.

Well they wouldn't really be undead, so they wouldn't need to shamble around.  It'd be more like Left 4 Dead, minus the super speed/strength/endurance.

Reminds me of this for some reason.

No.  There is no cure for zombies, and there never will be.  The only cure is lead.

Not to mention all the other various pointy/sharp/blunt objects made from all kinds of materials.

They're not zombies.  They're ill people.

This game does have a good deal of potential.

Of course I haven't heard from it for about two years, so I don't know what has been changed except for the graphics.

The RPG half of the game is in the guns, and I think NPCs have levels too, plus a diablo-esque inventory system.

Anyway, the guns consist of stock, firing chamber, barrel, trigger/grip, sights, and ammo type. The game just chooses from a loot table with 1000 of each, I think (or some large number like that). These all determine what the gun fires, how accurate it is, powerful it is, etc- they showed some interesting examples that the game generated, like an automatic shotgun that fired from revolving barrels, and a sniper grenade launcher. It sounds at least worth a look, IMO, but too many games that looked as promising were disappointing in recent years for me to get excited about much.

The question is: is it linear?

Probably about as much as Diablo 2.

There are four classes (and they aren't personalizible from what I can tell, it's like Diablo 2.), they all gain levels and aren't the traditional roles (completely  - they walk the line). You can co-op with friends, and go hunting and stuff, dungeon spelunking and stuff, and kill stuff. It's pretty much what hellgate should have been.

I think I might remember reading about this in a Magazine some time ago.

All I remember is the fact that guns are patchworked from various parts, you can fight a giant hive creature, and you can fight This.
