I took on Zombie Island after raiding Fort Knoxx; so I was at a rather significant level, and had a bullet hose with it's ammo regen counterpart. What I've been doing lately has been raiding the bases in the Knoxx Pack and fishing some (dark) oranges and pearlescant hunting (I'm at 48-52 right now Correction: Level 47, closing in on 48), and have been optimizing my inventory. So far, in my bank at The Underdome, I have all kinds of weapons with a ammo-regen gun counterpart, and I've been fishing overkill guns (non-elemental) and elemental guns with at least 3x (elemental or # rockets launched) modifiers and decent stats. I think I won't be having much problem with future Underdome matches (since I beat the regular 5 round matches, and am now to the 15 round matches).

What I am looking for are either pearls and/or overkill snipers or something to be able to take on Crawmerax at a low enough level. Yes, I am crazy enough to take that bug on at level 48-52.

EDIT:
Just lately now, I have a fast firing bad dog (Speedy impact shotgun (108x7 with a good zoom and 20 shots per reload), and a rare Terrible Defender shotgun that shoots rockets (Defender = ammo regen) and allows 6 shots per reload. I also have a few pistols that are essentially machine guns and one of them regens ammo, and an SMG that has a heavy punch. And re-looking, I'm still at level 47. Still haven't begun playthrough 2 yet, and I recently acquired myself a much much much improved scavenger class mod with +2 to rare items collecting.

Always a free agent for multiplayer raids if you want cool stuff rated for level 30-40 in playthrough 1. Speaking of cool stuff, I have yet to find an adequate replacement to my Terrible Matador (188 x12 (2256 combined) damage, 2 shot, and decent accuracy and a decent fire rate. This is the weapon that renders all playthrough 1 bosses a joke, even the Claptraps' versions, and gives me a fighting chance in playthrough 1. My only weapon that even caught Crawmerax's attention when hit (albeit, really really weak hit). I think I found this gun, I forgot where; but I know there's better. This is a blue class gun, and is for lower levels than my current.).

Regarding playthrough 2, I can always ask for a little assistance to buzz past the introduction missions. Then again, with my optimized equipment, I shouldn't worry as much. Mad Moxxi's extended runs, I can always use alot of help. 5 rounds was pretty bad, this can get rough, even with my skills and rather broken equipment.

EDIT EDIT:
To learn more of my equipment stats (where obscured), I'm using editors to extract more info and apply them to. I have no intent to use any editors here beyond collecting info, and thinking up cool weapons.

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
I guess the prison general area was where I must've found my Matador; number looks rather consistent, although quite random.

Anyway, using an editor, I found the most ideal Terrible Matador that can still be legitimately found/bought.

I found a new Masher in the prison break mission... 186x7 dmg, 76 or so accuracy, 1.6 fire rate, 2 ammo capacity. I have Trespass and Gun Crazy. The boss there died in 3 shots, he didn't manage to damage my shield at all.

So, what versions are people playing? I myself have it for the PC, and hate that cross-platform multiplayer doesn't exist..

I did Zombie Island at like level 17, so it was leveled to 15 and I sort of broke it. The first loading screen hint I got was that zombies were weak to explosive damage, so I got a two-shot x4 explosive revolver and went to town. Of course I had sniper perks so I was determined to utilize my liquid sniper rifle. I got pretty good at snapshot headshots.

I think it's naturally leveled down a bit, but everything I read said the leveling caps at an effective 30.  So when I went in at 32 (and was 35 by the time I gave up my broken quest), there was hardly an enemy in the area besides Badass Tankensteins that could stand up to more than one shot with any weapon.  But fuck those puking guys.  Exactly what I need is for this tedious zombie shit to take longer than it does.  After a while, I was just running straight through maps, and mass-blasting the crowds I'd pull after a while.

I got tired of how long it took all the guys in an area to clear out. Slow waves of zombies coming in piece meal is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. A couple places like the Hospital were ramped up, but it felt like the first half of the island is just kind of slow and boring.

 Alright, starting a Brick character.

 Ya'll are crazy motherfuckers.

Every engagement has me running up to dudes, killing one and having to rely on a second wind from killing another mook to go on. I'm getting the feeling that I shouldn't be focusing on shooting perks for this dude.

Yeah, all the normal strategies that go into surviving being ganged up on apply double with Brick.  Prepare for more than one occasion where you get stomped by a gang of Badass Lance Engineers or something, and they all hide behind a corner so you can't kill any of them.  When fighting groups, you should actually go for the big guys first, so if you get knocked down, there's little guys you can restore yourself with.  Pile up on the Tank path too, there's a skill that actually make Second Wind your best way of restoring your health, by throwing you back up to 60%.  The rocket-related skills are all useless, since rockets themselves are useless.  But the skill that gives you a damage boost when you kill something is worth investing in.  But the Melee skills are a good investment, since not only does Berserk rock hardcore, but it regenerates health and does it so fast you're almost invincible.

So: Load up on Tanker skills, kill something weak to activate your kill-related bonuses, focus on the strong guys, save the rest of the weak guys for mop-up/reactivation, and use Berserk as a panic button and quick restore when you run into trouble.  That being said, starting out is hard, and I suggest getting a weapon other than a shotgun for a while, especially since the starting one is a total piece of shit.

Hell, I've still got the badass Sniper-Shotgun Janet gave me way back when.  If you want to hop online, I could pass its legacy on to you.

I have to leave for class in an hour.

You gotta make sure I close the program immediately after man. But the legacy will live on.

Seems in Borderlands I have had more fun with playful things like this than any other game. The Prophecy of reaching level 30 before leaving Fyrestone, the legacy of the Shotgun passed down through Generations, who knows what crazy thing we'll get involved in next.

We should do a run this afternoon with anybody who can be around then.

I just raided the armory for the first time. I killed General Knoxx with this gun (had pistol ammo regen):

Since this is my first time in there, I found it necessary to use the glitch to witness the full glory of the armory... I've heard about it, but I'm still deeply amazed. It's really like X'mas!

I found my next Masher in there:

I found a new copy for every kind of gun I use, and all of them are doubled in damage output.

Almost a year ago I said I'd be up for a game.

Technically, that never expired. Haven't played it in... almost a year, I suppose, though.

I just laid my hands on a copy of the GOTY edition and while I can't actually play it till the end of the week, I hope that you vets can give me an answer.

Is it possible to play co-op with one copy? My bro isn't too convinced to buy a copy himself and I hope a taste of the action will persuade him.

At what level can you do the "extra" levels that the DLC give? 1, 10, 20? Or can you just go whenever and the game will scale it up?

Thanks in advance, folks.

A pity, but it was to be expected. I'll just let him have a go at my copy and perhaps that will be enough to persuade him. Cheers for the reply!

I guess I'll admit it anyway. I've been abusing the armory glitch to refine my weapons collection, but the first time around was to really make up for my first time in there since beating it the first time (fell off the floating platform and only explored 10% of the armory). The next times were to see if I can get any pearls at my current level. So far, I only became an envy of pirates (which I was already close to getting anyway). So far, I have many variations of the golden gun, and a nice set of oranges, but nothing can beat my current best equipment so far. Maybe I should playthrough 2 it to get the really awesome stuff, because even I'm starting to get bored with my current repeat-finds. My equipment from that place is maxed out for what I can find.

Where the glitch is concerned, it is possible to open every single chest without triggering the "[] Steal Loot" check mark, and using any other glitches to bypass it (and it can be done in single-player easily; just mind your surroundings).

Spoiler: My path (click to show/hide)

I wonder, are pearlescants only unlockable past level 60? I have yet to find any, but I found crap-tons of S&S merchandise (dark orange).

EDIT:
The only DLC that scales up with your level is Mad Moxxi's arena (and this is a constant scaling. I think it averages with various levels of players if multiple, but the number of targets also scales according to how many players, I think the round features are scaled up as well). Everywhere else is at a certain level range apiece, staring from Ned's Zombies to Fort Knoxx to Robot Revolution. Ned's is the lowest (and that is only just after beating the original game you should be at-level), and Claptraps being the hardest/highest levels, although Knoxx's guys can still give you a run for your money if they get too concentrated in numbers.

But yeah, technically, you can access any of the DLC zones anytime, provided you purchased them. They're great for raiding big bucks early on (albeit, raiding lockers and stuff around the starting zone; you'll get destroyed by everything else if you're not careful). Most equipment will be too high in level for you to use, but will fetch a pretty penny to sell though. So DLC is great for early big bucks in the really low level range. Technically by my standards, that is a "frowned upon"-level of cheating. Only do this AFTER you beat playthrough 1 at least once (I suppose similar with playthroughs 2 and 2.5; though by then, it would be pointless. Especially if you raid Fort Knoxx regularly.).

I guess that can somewhat justify my regular Knoxx raids as well. I 100% (practically) the whole game and DLCs for playthrough 1 (all but the Big Crawdaddy).

EDIT EDIT:
Got 2 more decent Terrible Matadors up for grabs. MP with me if you want them. They're just a shade below quality (either rate is slower, or sights don't zoom as far).

He should buy a copy because the devs totally earned it, haven't had that much fun in a FPS/Strategy game since Fallout.
