If you're having trouble with forwarding the correct ports, or can't get it to work with your router for whatever reason, I suggest trying out Tunngle. It's in beta, and for now the program is only in German, but it's easy enough to figure out.

You just register a free account on their website and download the application. It's similar to Hamachi, but it's specifically geared towards gaming. You sign in and then join a room through the Browser, then you just start up Borderlands and go to LAN Game and if there are any games being hosted in that room you will see them and be able to join.

No port forwarding or anything. Played for about four hours with my friends and didn't have a hiccup.

Edit: Can't access their MasterServer or something right now, but I guess since this is a beta program expect some downtime occasionally.

I found it nearly impossible to shoot straight at anything that is either firing at me or uses 0.003 second to jump at my face and my bird doesn't help much at all either. Once you get over the fact that it has a lot of guns, it's a very repetitive and boring game especially after you realize you picked a class that is weak against 90% of the content of the game, or more precise, one overused enemy with 3 or so variations that(the fucking skags). If i'd have to rate it, i'd give it a 5/10 or 6/10 at best.

I've had my eye on this for a while, but won't have the time to play it until Christmas at least so I've held off buying it.
Can someone with an Nvidia card confirm that you can successfully force antialiasing on? And can anyone with the PC version confirm that you can turn aim-assist off?

Because, like, if it's got AA and no AA, it's gonna be damn near unplayable for me. :/

This game is awesome, no matter how you slice it. I am absolutely in love with it and cannot stop playing it. I just finished killing Sledge.

At first it was a bitch to get this game running nice and smooth, but I ended up downloading Evga's newest SLI drivers and now the game works like a charm. I have it running at 1440x900 at high everything but I didnt turn FSAA on at all, and it runs beautifully now. The game looks amazing, the art style is just so pleasing to the eyes.

And the guns, wowwee! I just got a revolver that has a 4x zoom scope that shoots shotgun type shots. And a little bit before th at I got a sub machine gun that fires so damn fast, and does so damn much damage its great.

The voice acting is quite good too, some of the things the bandits say get kind of repedative, but it sounds good so its not very bothersome ("You shoulda never come here! Im gonna make you pay!") So far the voice for Mordenkai (spelling?) is pretty great, it fits him perfectly.  CL4P-TRP(clap trap) is hillarious, espically when he does his little techno "Oonts oonts oonts oonts" it cracks me up.

Vehicle control is terrible I will admit. Instead of using wasd controls, you use W and S to accellerate/decelerate respectively, but you cant use A and D to turn. Instead you turn with the mouse, and it feels awkward.

The menu system is kind of wonky as well, since its basicly a direct port (lying gearbox bastards! grr!). You have to use .ini tweaks to use the mouse wheel to scroll through menus and dialogs, and it has excessive use of the enter and escape buttons, but nothing to terrible and only takes a few minutes to get used to.

All in all, after you get done tweaking the ini files to your liking (changing keybinds, vsync, etc..) it plays very well and is quite fun. I havent tried out multiplayer yet, because Im waiting for a buddy of mine to get on irc so I can tell him to get it.

Its a pretty solid shooter and the rpg/LEWTZ aspect is great. As for it being repetitive, name me one game that isnt. Its a shooter, you shoot things, pretty much all you do. Just like every other shooter. It definately lives up to the hype in my opinion, and anyone that is looking forward to it, I whole heartedly recommend it to you. People that have no clue what it is, check it out still, you probably will dig it.

Completely arbitrary rating: 32459823470592348573/10

Ps. I FUCKING HATE SKAGS! That is all.

Edit: Dekafu, you can force AA in the .ini files or force it via your control panel/nHancer. And yes, you can turn aim assist OFF. Its in game options in the options menu.

I don't know but apperantly I am the only one in the group who can host games... ohh well Ill find out brand later.

One thing I am starting to seriously dislike is how close the levels need to be in order for you to do reasonable damage unless you have one of those unbalanced weapons (and we found a few. A shotgun that does 1000 damage for example and I also heard of a machine gun that dispells its whole magazine instantly)

http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=79043

Thats for many tweaks. AA has to be forced via your video card control panel, or using something like nHancer. Optionally you can rename borderlands.exe to Bioshock.exe or ut3.exe and what not which will tell the drivers to force AA, but this only works for some people I have read.

As for the black lines, I dont think you can get rid of them. Personally, I like them.

Also, for anyone that is having problems with performance, even on a good machine:
Look for your borderlands shortcut and right click.  Go to Properties and when the window pops up, make your target line look something like this (binary location might be different, this is on my Vista)
"K:\Program Files (x86)\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe" -DX9

Add a space and put -DX9 at the end. It significantly improves performance. From the point where I couldnt run it at 640x480 on lowest settings at higher than 5 or 6 fps, to running it alot better.

And for anyone running SLI and having performance issuse:
http://www.evga.com/articles/00463/Default.asp

updated sli drivers. These finished up my ability to put this game at max settings flawlessly with consistent good performance.

Edit: You can turn up AF via ingame options, and I havent noticed any difference past 4x.

Edit again: A word of warning for using the above tweaks to add key bindings, the process is a bit screwed up, it tells you to put it under [WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput]
But if you do that, you lose all mouse and keyboard support (or atleast I did). If this happens to you, move the keybindings up to [Engine.PlayerInput] and all will be well.  Also, if you use the toggle zoom keybindings, it screws up your alt fire for driving the vehicle.

I'm downloading it on my laptop.  Maybe I'll be able to get 20 fps or so on the lowest difficulty, and get to try it.  Otherwise I'm going to go insane waiting for them to give me my big stupid computer back.

It runs!  Barely though, and it's cooking parts of me that aren't supposed to be cooked, but my laptop is running it.  Oh yeah.

I found a long barrel revolver that's almost as accurate as a sniper rifle. Sweet.
