Yeah, Spartans were brave and ferocious (partly due to intensely harsh upbringing the soldiers had to go through, generally being forced to steal for food), but not exactly brilliantly equipped.  Their armour was light at best.

That's... not the point.  I was talking about 300.  You see the arrows punching halfway through the Spartan's shields, yet none of them hit their forearms strapped to the other side of the shield.  Within the physics of the movie it doesn't make any sense.

Cybernetic arm.  Either that or the shield is part of their arm, but that wouldn't make sense, because they have to keep replacing their arm?  Hmmm.  It has to be some type of tough alloy to take those arrows with tough alloy heads.



EDIT:  Oh no, I just caused another problem.  Why wouldn't the sparta dudes just use that strong alloy for their shields?!  Makes no sense aye.


EDIT:  Unless the metal alloy is very rare!  Tough times cause for some budget cuts, eh?

I dunno, the idea that all the arrows (which were described by some as "So thick the sun was blotted out" (obviously an exaggeration, but still clearly a lot of arrows)) would strike their shields and not their exposed legs is already dubious enough.

Said shields are also able to deflect burning shards of what seems to be a primitive molotov cocktail.
I'm pretty sure the creators were going for "basic is better", with the bronze shield and the spear owning quasi magic and beasts and all that. Oh, and a lot of "bullshit cause it's cool".

300 does not have realistic armor. At all. And remember these were people in almost no armor with wooden spears and wicker sheilds they were fighting. That's why the spartans lasted so long.
