I've seen something similar occur, except i lost nearly a third of my dwarves when winter came and they all got flash-frozen into iceblocks.

I'm going to try my hand at world gen in vanilla DF with default settings.
I wonder how long until I find something like this?

You should all join in and see what you can get before four hours have passed.
Then we can share, and possibly find the best island ever!

Time to go tediously wade through ocean tiles...

Oh, this is gonna be fun.

I gotta try making an island community sometime, if I weren't so busy.

It seems like something that the Mod/Utilities people could have some fun with.  Write a script that generates worlds and scans them for (small) islands.  Then let it run for days!

If I had free time, I'd be sorely tempted to try this.

Huh, is that also in a lake? Maybe small Islands pop up more in lakes, but people look for them more often in the Ocean. Also, what is that blue thing at the south end of the Island?

Yes it's a lake, and yes the blue thing is actually a tiny brook with a single river source tile :P

Ok, that's it: df16-4x5.rar

Please keep in mind that my game is "somewhat modded" in case of metals/minerals/reactions and HFS. ;-)

So,
1. Copy your DF _d16 into other folder. (or backup the old one)
2. Delete RAW and DATA folders there.
3. Decompress archive replacing the DATA and RAW folders.

Have fun. ;-)

Well, I genned my stuff in vanilla. take that! :P

I'm just wondering how you're going to survive without wood. What about the barrels man?! Booze needs barrels! And you need fuel to make metal barrels, or a mood!

Gah, if I just were adjusted for college workload, I would be making a community fort with my latest island. I embarked and got a herd of wild elephants.

It sadly crashes during the memory dump for Khazad, so no 3D that way.  There is no aquifer so it is easy digging, with some underground silt for easy farming.   Lots of wood.

Here is my starting on the island:
http://mkv25.net/dfma/usermaps.php?fortressName=Gloombound
http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6915-gloombound

I'll see if I can't reveal it and show all the levels later tonight.
The revealed version:
http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6923-gloombound_revealed

What I'd like to know is if any other civs (or even dwarves) will come visit.  I read someone saying that elves had come.  Do they just appear on your island?  Or walk across the ocean bottom to get to you?

EDIT: Sorry about the bad URL!
