My phone's screen suddenly went haywire. I don't know why, but it looks like someone smashed it... the only thing is that the glass screen is perfectly fine with no scratches or damage whatsoever. Just the screen.

The thing is that sending it back for repair will take 3 weeks! What the heck do I do without a phone for 3 weeks? I don't have a land line. No one else I know uses Virgin either, so I'm really boned as there's no phone to borrow. I have a job, I have people to call, I have people I need to recieve calls from! Phone is important!

Couldn't you just buy a cheapy or just upgrade entirely?and I guess you could say theres an inner screen that can get damaged thats whats showing the image, it happened to my gameboy SP a few years ago. Something it it from the outside and cracked the inner screen.

This happened to my second DS Clunk. The hinge had broken in the first one that I had gotten at release, so I got it replaced with my warranty. The DS I got back had a messed up pixel, but otherwise worked for half a year. Then one day its top screen looked like it was broken, but only underneath the glass (no glass was broken). I could still play games, but if they used the top screen as the main screen, it would be incredibly frustrating. I ended up just getting a new DS.

So...my own story aside, I say just get a new phone/extra phone. Possibly one of those Go phones or whatever they're called that are advertised on TV. Just something cheap that will last until you get your old phone repaired.

Skype and Zoiper can both be used from your PC to call out to "normal" phones, and there are ways of getting them to receive calls as well...  But I'll be damned if I can help you there.

Zoiper might be easier in that respect.  I base that on nothing at all.  All the same, take a look around to see if someone can detail a relatively simple way of getting it to take calls.  If you get it working, you'll end up with a service that's cheaper (if not completely free) and provides sharper quality.

...If you've got a relatively good network connection, that is.

Most common screens are protected. Theres glass or plastic over the actual display. That way if you scratch or drop it (depends on how hard), you won't destroy the display. Nintendo usually has some rugged shit. Although the DS lite and DSi are both lighter and more easy to damage. My original GBA has scratches up the wazoo, and I've dropped it at least 7 times.

I'm probably just going to buy a $50 phone to use temporarily then sell it when I get my phone back. The good news is while screen damage is considered user-caused and isn't covered by warranty, Virgin is offering to repair it for just $25 with free shipping and all that. Just the 3 weeks thing.

At least it isn't gonna cost me $125 to get the screen replaced.
