Strike the Adamantine?
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:36:45 pm »

Today is the first day for me trying the Dig Deeper mod after seeing it in action on sparkgear 3 and such. It seems like something that will test my metal. Speaking of metal, I made a world with the new mod and I found a nice embark with magma and an underground river. I take a few hours (as usual) to make a new preparation before my journey. I embark, and take a quick look around and find this next to me on the same level.

Now is this just dumb luck or does this happen way more often in Dig Deeper mod games or what? I think I might be able to use this to my advantage somehow! Anyway, I'm seriously wondering if this is dumb luck or something that happens now and then - so comment!

Two in one? They were connected basically, one of the walls is creeping with adamantine.

This map is just going crazier by the minute, while my poor woodcutter has to fend off mountain gnomes who try to eat everything I have in my wagon! Pests!

UPDATE:
I just don't get tired of taking images. This is silly.

An adamantite vein exposed :o :o
Never seen that before, I don't know if Dig Deeper have adamantite as a "regular" ore vein, but I doubt it.

I think you're just incredibly lucky!

Maybe..., well I found a second exposed vein even closer north now, about 20 tiles away or so. :S

Update: Third exposed vein found and the first one I tap is huge.

Update: This is getting a bit silly..

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with your adamantine, with it apparently showing up in clusters.

Abuse it to your whims.

Well, if it is "non-legit" it feels like it's just sandboxed in the sense that I could just have easily modded and played it easy-style. If it however is not meant for this to happen I will feel more inclined to run with the awesome hand that has been dealt to me.

I guess this is why I need confirmation on the matter. I haven't touched a single raw file, so this is the latest Dig Deeper to this date and I'm figuring it's easier to get adamantine because orcs are abundant and well other monsters as well. But THIS much adamantine? It's like a dwarven mecha, I could smoothen and build my entire entrance to the fort in adamantine!

The starting zone is the third from the top, third from the left in the Region screen, then at the local screen you need a 4x4 or 5x5 area to include the magma and river, between them and on top of the magma is where all the adamantine seem to be.

Hippoman, sure!

The orange is where I think the magma pipe is, the blue is how the river continues and the light blue is where it seems like Adamantine is concentrated. You basically start in the middle of that anyway.

calls002, actually no. Now when you mention it. This is the first time I ever see admantine so I didn't think about that part, but so far I haven't gotten any nasty surprises either, maybe it's just the mod then or that it wasn't found in the traditional way which made it "break" the message code.

UPDATE:
I just noticed it still has a high value, so I'm guessing it's s'posed to be rare. I have been updating and making screenshots so I haven't gotten to play much yet, but after digging out about as much as in the screenshot and a little more my fort is valued at 220k already. This wasn't the start I expected really, this feels a bit too broken to be played seriously ;D

I just started trying Dig deeper, as well..

And got an exposed vein of adamantine. Near the top of a mountain.

I think Dig Deeper may, in fact, be doing something screwy with it.
