Undead fish can walk on land. They shouldn't be able to fly, though.

Skorpion: if the map feature in question is in a haunted/sinister area, then the creatures populating the feature will be undead. Don't think this applies to HFS, though, much fun as an undead demon would be.

I had swarms of undead angel fish. They would dance gracefully across my winter-hardened plains, stopping only, as angels do, to carry my dwarves off to the afterlife.

It started raining, then all my dwarves outside started bleeding to death. On inspection their upper bodies were missing.

Is there a reason that you specified "haunted/sinister" as opposed to just "evil"? Do terrifying biomes not get undead creatures?
That would explain why the two evil maps I've tried have both had 100% living trees and no undead animals (I really wanted undead elephants).

They are propably walking on the land, but to me it seems they are flying. They dont move over an open space only directly over landtiles, but it does look weird.

I always imagine that skeletal fish just skip around using their bony fins.  Angelfish would be on their sides 'cause they're too tall, so they have to flop around like a fish out of water.  Just with more purpose and direction than normal.  Unless we assume they have haunted phantom air bladders, in which case, skeletal fish can fly.

I think that the ones more prone to get undead are haunted locations. I've seldom seen them at sinister, and Terrifying ones get other kind of things (harpies, werewolves, ogres...)

Why, why, oh why did it take me until reading this thread to discover you could just dig a fortification instead of making a darn grate?  >:( Oh well! Dwarf Fortress is a near-perpetual learning process.

Some traps made from bauxite mechanisms and loaded with steel weapons would take care of those imps. Tough to harass dwarves when both of your undead arms are floating around the bottom of the volcano.
